The Vice Chancellor's Office oversees the division's wide range of programs and activities designed to achieve broad levels of support—financial, political, and public support—for the goals and priorities of the campus.

With state funds accounting for less than half of the total campus budget, supporting UCSB's efforts to raise funds from private sources is a goal shared across the division. "Private giving is essential to UCSB's continued success," says John M. Wiemann, vice chancellor for institutional advancement and a professor of communication. "It provides the margin that ensures UCSB's academic excellence and strengthens our standing as a great university with a mission of superb education, groundbreaking research, and important and valuable community service."
