 We
at UC Santa Barbara feel very fortunate to be part of such
a special community. We also feel strongly that part of
our public service mission includes working with our local
and regional partners to develop projects and programs to
enhance the quality of life in this region. Our reach extends
into many areas of activity, from educational outreach and
economic forecasting to community health and technology
transfer.
Through our service to the community,
UCSB demonstrates our commitment to excellence in ways that
you can see and touch. Our partnerships with local schools,
businesses, and governments in Santa Barbara and Goleta,
as well as in neighboring counties, help to increase access
to UCSB's resources and promote awareness of our public
service offerings.
There also are many ways for members
of the public to enjoy themselves on our campus and through
our programs. UCSB sponsors a diverse array of concerts,
dramatic performances, exhibits, films and lectures—even
by our own five Nobel laureates!—as well as recreational
opportunities and sporting events. We also offer continuing
education programs for professional development. The university's
art museum, libraries, and natural reserves are open to
the public throughout the year.
