Swimming lessons.Year-round and summer-only offerings for all ages are available through UCSB's Exercise and Sport Studies Department. Children, families, and young adults can choose to participate in several programs, or observe UCSB's intercollegiate and club sporting events. Activities offer an opportunity for healthy recreation and skill development, and the Gauchos always appreciate fan support.

  • Aquatics Programs
    Operating year round, UCSB offers a variety of aquatic classes for youth and adults. Utilizing our three pools on campus we offer adult lap swim, Masters swim, water fitness classes, water polo, youth swim team, kayak classes, SCUBA, springboard diving lessons, Youth and Adult Swim lessons and aquatic certifications.

  • Community Athletic Coaching
    UCSB students enrolled in the Athletic Coaching minor share their expertise by coaching local community athletic teams. Many local teams have UCSB students as head coaches.

  • Dept. of Recreation
    Wine tasting, sailing, aerobics, yoga, ceramics, and dance are a few of the non-credit courses advertised in UCSB's "Leisure Review." Using UCSB's facilities, these courses offer community members an opportunity to explore new interests or polish old skills.

  • Intercollegiate Athletics
    The community is invited to share in the excitement of intercollegiate sports by attending a variety of sporting events. UCSB has an extensive athletic program that includes intercollegiate teams for men and women in basketball, track, gymnastics, cross country, tennis, water polo, swimming, soccer, and volleyball. Men's baseball and golf and women's softball are also quite popular.

  • Recreational Sports; Intramural Sports, Sports Clubs,
    UCSB Sports Clubs invites community members to participate in a variety of programs. Play on an intramural team, attend intercollegiate athletic sport club competitions (20 teams such as alpine racing, bowling, cycling, fencing, lacrosse, rowing, rugby, triathlon, waterski/wakeboard, sailing, surfing, soccer, ultimate frisbee) or take advantage of Adventure Programs such as a class, ropes/challenge course or trip - kayak, scuba, rock climbing, & Yosemite back-packing. Please check eligibility requirements for each specific program. Many are open to the public.

  • Wellness and Fitness Institute
    The Wellness and Fitness Institute is a human performance lab designed to assess physical fitness and health. Services range from personal fitness consultation to cardiovascular/fitness level testing, body composition testing, lung function testing, body lipid profiling, computerized nutritional evaluation, back evaluation and consultation. and health risk appraisal.

Summer
  • Junior Lifeguard Program
    The Junior Lifeguard Program teaches students, ages eight to seventeen, basic lifeguard, safety, rescue and fitness skills through hands-on activities. Classes meet at Campus Point for two 4-week sessions from June to August. Swim test required. www.ucsbjgs.org

  • Summer Day Camp: Ages 5-14
    The UCSB Summer Day Camp provides a safe, fun and active environment in which children can develop new skills, self-esteem and friendships. Campers enjoy daily swimming at the Recreation Center and Campus Pool, access to the UCSB Gymnastics Facility as well as weekly visits to the Ropes Adventure Course. Camp is for boys and girls ages 5 - 14 and is divided into four age groups.

  • UCSB Surf & Kayak Camp
    An exciting Ocean Sports Camp for ages 9-15. Designed to encourage marine interaction through recreation and education. Activites include surfing, stand-up-paddling, bodyboarding, snorkeling, kayaking, volleyball, tug-o-war, tidepooling, sand caste building and more! Ten one-week sessions M-F 1-5pm throughout the summer. Staff are all certified in Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR.

  • UCSB Swim Lessons
    Swim Lessons for ages 3 - adult taught by certified Red Cross Instructors. Group, semi-private and private lessons available summer; private lessons avail. throughout the year. Warm water teaching pool. Detailed summer lesson information on website. Children must be completely "potty-trained" to partcipate.
