Meet at the Marine Science Building to walk down to Campus Point.
The new MSI Research Experience & Education Facility invites you for a "hands-on" introduction to temperate reef ecology and research. Experience over 100 different species of marine plants and animals. Tours are limited to 20 people. Sign up is required at check-in.

Meet at Front Desk of Rec Cen.
Boasting two swimming pools, two gymnasia, two weight rooms, two squash courts and five raquetball courts the Rec Cen is one of the most popular spots on campus. Located immediately behind the pre-existing Rec Cen, is the brand new MAC, which offers students a multi-activity court — for indoor hockey, soccer or lacrosse — as well as a 7,000-square foot weight room, aerobic studio, pottery kiln and climbing wall.

Climbing Center **
Recreation Center
Up to 20 climbers can climb the tallest indoor imprint climbing wall on the West Coast. UCSB's 30-foot imprint rock wall differs from regular rock walls in that climbers use attachable handles and footholds to scale it. Equipment and training are provided for $15/20 each (UCSB Student/Non-Student). There is no age limit to climb, however it is requested that children under the age of 15 be accompanied by an adult.     "High Society" showcases more than 125 colorful, highly graphic, vintage concert and dance posters from the 1960s, featuring such legendary bands and performers as the Grateful Dead, The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin.
     
  • The Black Panthers 1968
    A photographic essay by Ruth-Marion Baruch and Pirkle Jones, who for over 40 years chronicled the people, politics, and landscape of Northern California—and in the process captured the most important American social movements of the second half of the 20th century.

Learn about the Sedgwick Reserve, one of seven natural reserves administered through the Natural Reserve System under UCSB's Marine Science Institute. Reserve Director Michael Williams will discuss ongoing research studies, projects in the arts and humanities, innovative K-12 outreach programs, and future plans for the 5,890-acre natural area located in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley.

Performing Arts Theatre
Theatre UCSB opens its season of drama and dance with Charles L. Mee's play, bobrauschenbergamerica, in the Performing Arts Theatre: Dawn breaks in a small American town. Mom gets the paper off of the porch and talks about some memories of her son, Bob. A trucker muses on the start of the day. Then, among other things, lovers argue over relationships and sex, picnickers discuss the origin of astronomy, and a derelict man stages his sensationalist screenplay. bobrauschenbergamerica is a kaleidoscopic rumination on the idea of America as well as a study of art and artifice in everyday life. Tickets are $17.00 for general admission and $13.00 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the UCSB Arts & Lectures Ticket Office starting September 10, 2005. Listen as David Cleveland, Associate Professor in Anthropology and Environmental Science, connects organic farming to world climate and food issues. His lecture will be followed by a tour of his 5-acre organic garden on campus where he teaches small-scale food production.

"A Day in the Life of a UCSB Student—A Faculty Perspective" – by Paula Yurkanis Bruice
Marine Science - 2nd Floor Conference Room
Dr. Bruice, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, joined the faculty in 1972. From 1995-2004, she was the University's Health Professions Advisor. She is the author of a textbook "Organic Chemistry" that is used in many universities throughout the world. Having had three children graduate from UCSB, Dr. Bruice will provide parents with advice and insight into life at UCSB.

An integral part of the Classics Department for over thirty-five years, Professor Apostolos Athanassakis is UCSB's first Faculty Resident Learning Director for Manzanita Village, a position to which he has a heartfelt commitment. As Faculty Resident, Professor Athanassakis lives in the dormitory complex of approximately 800 students and assists in the development of UCSB's living/learning community. Listen as Professor Athanassakis discusses what he has discovered living with the students and explores ideas of how to support and enhance their university experience. Meet in Cliff House parking lot
Located adjacent to the Santa Barbara campus, the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve protects a wide variety of coastal and estuarine habitats and is one of the best remaining examples of a coastal-strand environment in Southern California. In this guided one hour tour, naturalists will talk about how the reserve is used by researchers and students of the university and show some of the ongoing preservation programs such as restoration of coastal habitats and the protection of the Snowy Plover. Theatre UCSB opens its season of drama and dance with Charles L. Mee's play, bobrauschenbergamerica, in the Performing Arts Theatre: Dawn breaks in a small American town. Mom gets the paper off of the porch and talks about some memories of her son, Bob. A trucker muses on the start of the day. Then, among other things, lovers argue over relationships and sex, picnickers discuss the origin of astronomy, and a derelict man stages his sensationalist screenplay. bobrauschenbergamerica is a kaleidoscopic rumination on the idea of America as well as a study of art and artifice in everyday life. Tickets are $17.00 for general admission and $13.00 for students and seniors. Tickets will be available at the UCSB Arts & Lectures Ticket Office starting September 10, 2005.
