HISTORIAN FISCHER TO SIGN COPIES OF BOOK ON THE HOLOCAUST

Historian Klaus Fischer will lecture and sign copies of his latest book, "The History of An Obsession: German Judeophobia and the Holocaust" (Continuum, 1998), at 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Karpeles Manuscript Library Museum, 21 West Anapamu St., Santa Barbara. The event is free and open to the public.

Fischer, a professor of history and philosophy at Allan Hancock College, earned his doctorate in history at UC Santa Barbara. He is the author of "Nazi Germany: A New History," which has been praised as the "best one-volume history of the Third Reich," as well as "History and Prophecy: Oswald Spengler and the Decline of the West." "The History of An Obsession" has already received excellent reviews in the Los Angeles Times, Publishers Weekly, Booklist, and the Library Journal.

Leonard Marsak, an emeritus professor of history at UCSB, has lauded Fischer's latest book as a "marvel of historical writing. Fischer has made the seemingly incomprehensible Nazi experience of radical evil comprehensible after all. He writes history as it should be written, with sensitivity to his material and with historical imagination."
