Hull is renowned as one of the founders of scholarship and research in black feminism. She is the co-editor of the landmark volume "All the Women Are White, All the Blacks Are Men, But Some of Us Are Brave" (1982). Her most recent publication is "Soul Talk: The New Spirituality of African American Women" (2001). She is teaching two courses this quarter: "Black Women Writers" and "Literature, Spirit, and Social Justice."
Hull's talk launches the Black Feminist Studies Lecture Series at UCSB, emphasizing its "contemporary significance, the historical contribution, and the long term societal impact of this domain of scholarship," according to department chair Jacqueline Bobo. The lecture will be given annually by a prominent black feminist scholar, she added.
