Sponsored by the UCSB Women's Center as part of its annual Distinguished Woman In Sports lecture series, the talk is entitled "Pass, Set, Hit, Score: Moving from All-Star to All-Pro."
A starter for the 1998 United States Olympic indoor volleyball team, Masakayan successfully transitioned from being one of the premier collegiate and U.S. national team members to one of the best beach volleyball players, winning a gold medal with partner Karolyn Kirby at the 1994 Goodwill Games. Masakayan was chosen by Volleyball Magazine in 1999 as a member of its All Millenium Team.
During her years as a UCLA Bruin, Masakayan led her team to a national championship in 1984, and received the following year the Broderick Award recognizing her as the foremost collegiate volleyball player in the country.
A reception for Masakayan will be held prior to her talk. Admission is $25 per person and reservations are required. Call 893-3778 for more information.
The annual woman in sports lecture is the premier event in UCSB's celebration of the 16th Annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
