Tarnoff, now president of his own foreign affairs consulting firm, also is expected to be asked about Tuesday's military coup in Pakistan.
Don Gevirtz, former U.S. ambassador to Fiji and co-instructor of the class, said Tarnoff will be available for media interviews in the afternoon.
Tarnoff's appearance is one of several by prominent political and business leaders arranged by Ambassador Gevirtz and Mark Juergensmeyer, Director of the Global and International Studies Program at UCSB for the class, which they co-instruct. The speakers are asked to present the class with an international problem they faced during their careers, then tell how the problem was solved.
Former Colorado Senator and presidential candidate Gary Hart is scheduled to speak to the class on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
