Ayech, a graduate student at Mexico's University of Queretaro and a past participant in international opera competitions, was a finalist in the prestigious 1998 Vincenzo Bellini competition in Italy.
Among the Mexican favorites chosen for her program are "Son de la Negra" by S. Vargas; "Jurame," "Te Quiero Dijiste," "Asi," and "Ya No Me Quires" by Maria Grever; "Solamente Una Vez" and "Granada" by Agustin Lara; "Amapola" by A.M. LaCalle; "Sabor a Mi" by Alvara Carrillo and "Mexico Lindo" by Jesus Monge. She will be accompanied by pianist Andrew Harley.
Her visit is being made possible by the UCSB/University of Queretaro Academic Exchange Program with support from the UCSB Department of Chicano Studies, the Center for Chicano Studies and the Department of Music.
