The pilot program is in its second year with 120 students participating from four Santa Barbara schools—Franklin, Roosevelt, Peabody, and Washington. The program's strength are in its small student/teacher ratio and integration of learning materials in science, mathmatics, and language arts. Students were also given the opportunity to get to know their teachers for fall by spending time with them periodically through the summer. The teachers participating in the program received special training in the sciences through UCSB's QUEST program and the GLOBE Project.
