"One of the receptions is already full," Mel Gregory, director of Relations with Schools, said happily. "The response to our regional receptions has been overwhelming and the caliber of students grows each year."
Last year around 3,300 top-notch high school seniors and their families attended the standing-room-only events. Since their inception in 1995, the popular receptions have more than doubled in size.
"The personal approach works," said Gregory. "We've received very positive feedback from prospective students and their families. They were particularly charmed by our chancellor."
Gregory also attributed the campus's increasing popularity to UCSB's reputation as a top academic institution, the accessibility of senior faculty to undergraduate students, and the availability of research opportunities for students.
UCSB representatives will answer questions and provide information on the seaside campus's research ranking, undergraduate research, academic programs, the student experience at UCSB, financial aid, and housing.
Receptions will also be held from 1 to 4 p.m. at the following locations: Concord on Sunday, March 8, at the Concord Hilton; Bakersfield on Saturday, March 14, at the Four Points Hotel; Los Angeles on Sunday, March 15, at the Century Plaza Hotel; San Diego on Saturday, March 21, at the San Diego Marriott La Jolla; and Costa Mesa on Sunday, March 22, at the Westin South Coast Plaza.
