UC Santa Barbara Faculty Members Receive Fulbrights

September 30, 2004

(Santa Barbara, Calif.) – Three University of California, Santa Barbara faculty members are among the 800 men and women nationwide who have been awarded grants through the Fulbright Scholar Program for the 2004-2005 academic year to study or lecture abroad. They are:

Roger O. Friedland, professor of religious studies, will travel to the University of Rome to conduct research on his project titled "Remembering the Holocaust in Rome: The Jewish Question in Italian Political Culture, 1945-2000."

Stuart Alan Streichler, visiting assistant professor in the Law and Society Program, will spend the academic year at the Tohoku University in Japan lecturing students on American law and politics.

Raymond Sin-Kwok Wong, associate professor of sociology, will conduct research at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on "The New Hong Kong Entrepreneur: Changes in Chinese Entrepreneurship and Business Organizations."

Recipients of Fulbright Scholar awards are selected on the basis of academic or professional achievement, and because they have demonstrated extraordinary leadership potential in their fields. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
