The Office of Governmental Relations serves as UC Santa Barbara's liaison to federal, state and local elected
officials and public agencies. Our office works closely with the University of California's
Office of the President, the State
Governmental Relations office in Sacramento and the Federal Governmental
Relations office in Washington, D.C. to establish public understanding and support for the University's
teaching, research and public service missions.

DEPARTMENT LINKS
Local Government The Office of Governmental Relations seeks to be a good neighbor
in the local community, works to initiate and maintain relationships with local elected officials and participates in
local issues that impact the campus.
State Government The Office of Governmental Relations works to initiate, nurture
and sustain relationships with state legislators and other elected officeholders in order to promote and garner
public support for the University of California's teaching, research and public service missions.
Federal Government The Office of Governmental Relations acts as a liaison between
the campus and members of Congress, their staff and Executive Branch agencies in order to promote and garner public
support for the University of California's teaching, research and public service missions.
UCSB Advocacy The mission of UCSB Advocacy is to enhance public understanding of and support
for the University of California and UC Santa Barbara. UCSB Advocates are comprised of alumni, parents and friends who
work with the Alumni Association, the Office of Development and the Office of Governmental Relations to promote the campus
and advocate for issues that are important to UC and UCSB. Advocacy can take the form of attending receptions, meeting
with legislators and staff and contacting legislators via email, mail and/or phone.
