Welcome to the kickoff for our first-ever
Campaign for UC Santa Barbara. This is an exciting milestone
for our campus, and we are so honored and pleased to celebrate
it with you.
I would like to extend my sincere
thanks to all of our supporters—including our faculty,
staff, administrators, alumni, Trustees, community partners,
and friends—who are helping us chart a course for UCSB's
future. We are guided by your leadership, encouraged by your
generosity, and inspired by your vision and commitment.
Our campus has come a long way from
its humble beginnings as a state teachers college at the start
of the last century. This year we commemorate our 60th anniversary
as part of the University of California system, one of the
premier institutions of higher learning in the world.
I personally have been honored to
be part of this remarkable institution for a decade now. During
this time, I have found it tremendously rewarding to witness
UCSB's rapid upward trajectory in every measure of excellence,
including student quality and diversity, faculty recruitment
and retention, research grants, private fundraising, and national
and international rankings.
I am confident that the future holds
even greater promise for this university. Together we will
continue to build on UCSB's strengths while also creating
new opportunities for discovery and innovation. I thank each
of you for your partnership in this great endeavor.
