Michael T. Brown Appointed Acting Dean of Extended Learning Services


Michael T. Brown

Michael T. Brown, professor of counseling, clinical, and school psychology in the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, has been named Acting Dean of Extended Learning Services. As such, he will oversee UCSB Extension, Off-Campus Studies, and the campus’s international programs.
His “broad UC policy experience, strong leadership qualities, keen sense of administration, and many contacts and resources should enable him to lead Extended Learning Services to greater service to the campus and community,” Executive Vice Chancellor Gene Lucas said in announcing the appointment.
An alumnus of UC Irvine, Brown received his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Before joining the faculty at UCSB in 1993, he held professorships at at Ball State University, and Wayne State University. His current research focuses on the interplay between social and psychological factors in the career choice and decision-making of racial/ethnic minorities and women. In recognition of his work, he was elected a Fellow of the American Psychological Association.
Brown has been active on several Academic Senate committees on campus and systemwide, including his most recent service as chair of the systemwide Academic Senate and his previous service as chair of UC’s Board of Admissions and Relations with Schools.
