Staff Recognition Awards
UCSB Staff Assembly’s Staff Recognition Awards Program is seeking nominations for 2008-09 recipients.
Awards consist of $500 and a plaque, and will be presented to 10 career staff members during the Staff Celebration Week Barbeque on May 22.
Any faculty or staff member may submit a nomination.A selection committee of staff members will review the nominations and choose this year’s recipients.
Nomination forms are available at < www.staffassembly.ucsb.edu>. The deadline for submission is 4 p.m. on Friday, February 20. They may be sent by campus mail to Kim Summerfield in the sociology department or by email to stephanie.coghlan@sa.ucsb.edu. Questions should be directed to Summerfield at summerfield@soc.ucsb.edu.
HONORS & AWARDS
Steven K. Fisher,, professor of molecular, cellular, and developmental biology, has been elected a Fellow of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. A Fellow’s Medal will be presented to him at the association’s annual meeting in May.
Pierre Wiltzius professor of physics and dean of the Division of Mathematical, Life, and Physical Sciences, has been elected to the Sansum Diabetes Research Institute Board of Trustees and appointed to serve on the Objectivity in Science, Scientific Program Review, and Institutional Animal Care and Use committees.
Henry T. Yang, UCSB chancellor, has been appointed to the President’s Committee on the National Medal of Science, the White House announced on January 6th. He will serve a three-year term ending in December 2011.
TRANSITIONS
Polly Bustilloshas been named Director of Advancement Information Systems in the development office. She will manage daily operations of the advancement technical team, which oversees the technology for the Advance fund-raising database and other interfacing systems.
Dawn Senchukhas been promoted to the position of assistant manager of gift administration in the development office. She supervises the constituent records associates and the gift processing specialist positions.
IN MEMORIAM
Jacqueline Gist died on November 7, 2008. She joined the staff of the Education Abroad Program in 1987 and retired in 1992.
Susan Gosling died on November 27, 2008. She joined the staff of the English department on July 9, 1997, and was employed by the department at the time of her death.
