A Voice From Outer Space

Liam Hogan, center, asked NASA astronaut Gregory Chamitoff about conducting scientific experiments in space, while Patrick Konkol, right, wondered about the use of computers. The two members of Boy Scout Troop 105 in Goleta participated in a 15-minute, long-distance question-and-answer session with Chamitoff, the flight engineer and science officer currently aboard the International Space Station. The scout troop gathered on the observation deck of Broida Hall on August 15, and Ken Owen, left, of the Santa Barbara Amateur Radio Club made contact with Chamitoff as the space station crossed over the horizon. Troop 105 Scoutmaster Glenn Schifferl manages the computer systems for the physics department.
