HONORS & AWARDS

Tsuyoshi “Toshi” Hasegawa, professor of history and co-director of the Center for Cold War Studies, was honored with the 10th Shiba Ryotaro Award for the Japanese translation of his book “Racing the Enemy: Stalin, Truman, and the Surrender of Japan.” Named after a popular Japanese writer, it recognizes Hasegawa’s writing ability as well as historical accuracy.

Jacob Israelachvili, professor of chemical engineering and materials, has been awarded the honorary degree of doctor of engineering from the University of South Florida. He joined the UCSB faculty in 1986.

Reilly Pollard, Communications Services’ customer relations manager, has been recognized for his years of service to the nonprofit Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics, a health care provider system for low-income area families, including those in Isla Vista. He received a plaque “in honor and gratitude” for six years as president of the clinics’ Board of Directors.
