Wellness Fair Set for May 16
Organizers of the upcoming Wellness Fair 2006 plan to load Corwin Pavilion with more than 40 exhibitors and a special platform devoted to informative, even reinvigorating, 30-minute demonstrations on how to take care of yourself—from stretching exercises to healthy food preparation to back injury prevention. With free chair massages, blood pressure screenings, and body fat analyses, the most popular participatory attractions may require sign-up sheets, acknowledges Wendy Nishikawa, work/life coordinator for Human Resources and a chief organizer. “We hope the event will promote a positive focus on personal wellness,” she says. As part of the free fair, hour-long workshops on stress and pain management, among other topics, will be offered in the UCen Flying A Studio Room from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 16. At noon that day in Storke Plaza, Roger Jahnke, OMD, will speak about the powerful healing traditions of China. He is the author of “The Healer Within.” Jay Winner, M.D., a local family physician who is a national authority on stress management, will speak in the Flying A Room at 1 p.m. He wrote “Stress Management Made Simple: Effective Ways to Beat Stress.”
