With UCSB’s first-ever Volunteer Day over and around 4,300 Valentine’s Day candygrams delivered, the six-week, campus United Way campaign is coming to an end. The last day for pledges or donations is Feb. 28 (see <www.ia.ucsb.edu/uw> for more details).

Volunteer Day on Feb. 11 brought out eight UCSB staff members and 17 students to help spruce up Isla Vista Youth Projects and the Orfalea Family Children’s Center. Indoor and outdoor tasks included sanding, painting, window cleaning, yard work, and other general maintenance. Snacks were provided for the workers.

Agreeing that participation was less than hoped for, it was still “an opportunity to raise awareness of where (campus) United Way donations go,” said Steve Ortiz, development manager for Santa Barbara County United Way.
