New Events Planned for Staff Week
By Vic Cox
New events and activities are simmering for Staff Celebration Week 2005, which runs from May 9 to 13, report officials of the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Committee (CSAC) and Staff Assembly. They range from touring recently opened buildings, like the Intercollegiate Athletics Building, to cheering on your favorite baker in the campus Cookie Taste-Off. A CSAC Town Hall discussion on “Advancing Your Career at UCSB” is planned for May 12 between noon and 1:30 p.m. in the MultiCultural Center Theater. The Staff Assembly cookie contest that day begins at the same time—except for contestants, who are asked to get their entries to the MCC lounge before 11:45 a.m.—and will be judged for first, second, and third place prizes.
Cookie contest organizer Sally Foxen ( foxen@eastasian.ucsb.edu)
now asks that entrants notify her by May 2, and says that last-minute
entries will not be accepted. If in doubt, check with her before
bringing in the two dozen freshly homemade cookies.
Foxen is also in charge of the Staff Arts & Crafts Show. Entries for the show, which include artworks as well as crafts, ceased being accepted on April 15. This is because the items will be displayed at the Faculty Club and space is limited. The show, which features the work of at least 20 staff members, will begin on May 9 and run the entire week. It is separate from the Pottery Sale on May 13 on the Faculty Club lawn. Some other staff week events that also required advance registration include Staff Assembly’s free drawing for prizes on May 12 at noon in the MCC Lounge. Entry forms, one to a staff employee, must be clipped from the bottom of the Staff Assembly Spring 2005 flyer distributed earlier this month and returned by May 11 to Greta Halle in the Psychology Department.
CSAC tour flyers were also distributed earlier
this month and some of these activities have limited participation.
For example, advance registration is requested for the bird-watching
tour on May 12 at 7 a.m. Contact Patrick McNulty at mcnulty-p@sa.ucsb.edu
to save a place.
