Michael Young
Michael Young, vice chancellor for student affairs, has received the systemwide Outstanding Senior Leader Award from the Council of UC Staff Assemblies (CUCSA). Steve Garber, CUCSA chair, presented the award at the Town Hall Meeting on Staff Engagement on June 12. Young was cited for his "exceptional and consistent leadership," as well as his 24 years of service to the Division of Student Affairs and to the campus as a whole.

Matt Stern
Matt Stern, a corporal with the UCSB Police Department, is the recipient of an H. Thomas Guerry Award for Superior Service. Presented annually, the Guerry Awards are named for the former Santa Barbara police detective killed in the line of duty in 1970. The awards recognize law enforcement officials who have demonstrated exemplary service to the community.
Ryan Smith
Ryan Smith
Ryan Smith, a UCSB police officer, has received the H. Thomas Guerry Award for Valor. The award, named for the former Santa Barbara police detective who was killed in the line of duty in 1970, was presented by UCSB Police Chief Dustin Olsen. Smith was cited for leadership demonstrated last fall when, while taking a suspect into custody in Isla Vista, he heard gunshots from an adjacent street and ran in the direction of the sound. He helped provide cover and scene containment as additional officers arrived.
Anna Laura Jansma
Anna Laura Jansma
Anna Laura Jansma, a continuing lecturer in the Department of Communication, received the Lois Phillips Founder's Award from the Santa Barbara chapter of the Association for Women in Communication. The award was presented at the annual Women of Achievement luncheon on June 5. Jansma was recognized for her contributions to the founding of the chapter.
David Seibold
David Seibold
David Seibold, professor of communication, has received the 2013 Aubrey Fisher Mentorship Award from the International Communication Association. This award is presented annually to a scholar, teacher, and advisor who has been an exemplary role model to his students and junior colleagues during all stages of their careers. Seibold is recognized for having in impact on his former students, many of whom have become successful senior scholars at notable universities.
