| Carol W. Greider, a 1983 graduate of the College of Creative Studies, has been awarded the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Greider, a professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, shares the Nobel with Elizabeth H. Blackburn of the UCSF faculty and Jack W. Szostak. The three were honored for the discovery of “how chromosomes are protected by telomeres and the enzyme telomerase.”
