Human Resources Solicits
Staff Scholarship Applications
Applications are being accepted for the Dilling Yang Staff Scholarship Awards, which are designed to support the professional development of career staff members. The scholarships can be used for a variety of learning opportunities on campus. Among them are undergraduate and graduate courses; courses offered by Extension, Human Resources Training and Development, Instructional Computing, or Contracts and Grants; and UCSB-affiliated conferences that take place on campus.
Scholarship awards are up to $500, although other amounts may be considered.
Applications are sought for fall, winter, and spring professional development activities. The deadlines for priority consideration for summer and fall activities are August 1 and October 1. The deadlines for winter and spring will be January 1 and March 15, 2010, respectively.

HONORS & AWARDS
Linda Putnam, professor of communication, is one of six scholars who were selected to receive the 2009 Outstanding Article Award from the International Communication Association for their paper “Making Sense of Intractable Multiparty Conflict: A Study of Framing in Four Environmental Disputes.” The award honors an article published in a refereed journal during the previous two years.
Beth Schneider, associate dean of social sciences and director of the McNair Scholars Program, has received the Dixon-Levy Award from the UCSB Graduate Students Association. The award recognizes members of the campus community who have made significant contributions to the improvement of graduate student life. It was named for graduate students Travis Dixon and Alan Levy.
PUBLICATIONS
Robert Krut, a lecturer in the UCSB Writing Program, has published a new collection of poems titled “The Spider Sermons” (BlazeVOX Books, 2009).
IN MEMORIAM
Carlos Albarracin Sarmiento, an emeritus professor in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, died on April 27. He joined the faculty in 1969 and retired in 1986.
Stanley V. Anderson, died on March 23. He joined the faculty in 1961, and retired in 1991. Anderson is survived by his wife, Mary Anderson; and by their son, Stefan Anderson.
Reginald Golledge, professor of geography, died on May 29. He joined the faculty in 1977 and was an active member at the time of his death. Golledge is survived by his wife, Allison Golledge; by their children, Bryan and Brittany; by daughters Stephanie and Linda from his previous marriage; and by his brothers, John and Barry Golledge.
