Arts and Lectures will celebrate its 50th anniversary season next year with a spectacular lineup that includes more than 40 jazz, classical music, spoken work, theater, dance, and world music events. Among them are Yo-Yo Ma, Tony Award-winning actress Patti Lupone, Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, Emmy Award-winning journalist Charlie Rose, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, and Baba Maal.
“Arts and Lectures is so proud to celebrate 50 years of bringing some of the world’s best artists and thinkers to the Santa Barbara community,” said director Celesta Billeci. “Over the last half century, Arts and Lectures has significantly contributed to the cultural vitality of our community, and this coming season is no exception.”
The 2009-10 season also includes crowd favorites, such as Pink Martini and National Public Radio’s “Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me,” the internationally-renowned Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in a production of “Love’s Labours Lost,” and a performance by The Chieftains.
“We’re especially grateful to all of our partners on the UCSB campus,” Billeci continued. “With the support of faculty members and staff, we’ve been able to reach out to students and provide them with meaningful and extraordinary experiences with world class artists and lecturers. The anniversary season is dedicated to everyone who has supported Arts and Lectures in the last 50 years. It’s a privilege to share this season with all of you.”
A complete list of 2009-10 performances and events can be found at <www.artsandlectures.ucsb.edu>. Series subscriptions are available now, and single tickets will go on sale on Saturday, August 8.
