Candidates Sought for 2008-09 Regents’ Lecturers at UCSB
During the 2007-2008 academic year, the Regents’ Lecturers at UCSB were writer Pete Hamill in the College of Creative Studies, filmmaker Fernando Solanas in the Latin American and Iberian Studies Program, and artist Wangechi Mutu in the Department of Art. Now Arts & Lectures is looking for candidates for the upcoming year. “We anticipate that we will be able to invite three Regents’ Lecturers for the 2008-2009 academic year,” says Roman Baratiak, coordinator of the program. May 20 at 3 p.m is the deadline for departments to submit a nomination, he adds. Lectureships are designed to bring to UCSB distinguished people in the arts, letters, sciences, public affairs, and business whose work has been accomplished largely outside the academy. The length of the appointment is for a period of two to three days. While at UCSB, a lecturer is responsible for giving one public presentation; visiting classes at the request of an instructor; maintaining regular office hours in the host department; working with students in master classes, workshops and/or seminars; and being available for consultation with students and faculty. Information on the Regents’ Lectureship Program, including an application form, is available on the A&L Web site at: <https://artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu/RegentsLectureship.aspx>. Call Baratiak at x2078 with any questions or concerns regarding the application submission process. |
