In response to concerns regarding safety and skateboarding on campus, Donna Carpenter, vice chancellor for administrative services, held two open forums in May of last year to identify issues and discuss possible solutions.

As a next step, she has asked associate vice chancellor Ron Cortez to lead an effort to review comments, analyze issues, collect data, and make recommendations. He is working with the office of student affairs and Associated Students, which has named two student interns to assist in providing public education to the campus community during the upcoming academic year.

In the interim, Carpenter encourages staff, faculty, and students to be aware of the current skateboard policy, which can be found at <http://www.policy.ucsb.edu/policies/policy-docs/skate-boards.pdf>.
