Dennis O. Clegg, a professor and chair of the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, inspects the new stem cell research labs under construction in Bio II. In 2007, UCSB received a $2.26 million grant over three years from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine for the design and development of a shared lab to expand existing stem cell studies and to stimulate new investigations of the biology and engineering of stems cells at UCSB and other nearby research institutions. The lab should be ready for operation in February, according to Clegg.
