Draft LRDP Expected Soon
Drafts of UCSB’s new Long Range Development Plan, Environmental Impact Report, and other studies under the umbrella of Vision 2025 should be released in early December, according to an announcement by Gene Lucas, executive vice chancellor and chair of the LRDP committee. HONORS & AWARDS


Michael S. Gazzaniga, director of the Sage Center for the Study of the Mind, has been invited to deliver six prestigious lectures, known as the Gifford Lectures, at Scotland’s University of Edinburgh in 2009. The Gifford lectureships, which date from 1888, explore the relationship of science and religion.


Ann Lippincott, associate director of the Teacher Education Program for the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education, was recently elected co-chair of the steering committee for the Santa Barbara branch of the American Association of University Women. She is a former Fulbright scholar.


Jerry Roberts, Storke Student Publications manager and former executive editor of the Santa Barbara News-Press, was awarded the PEN Center USA’s 2007 First Amendment Award earlier this month. It is given to those who, at great personal cost, defend Americans’ freedom of expression. It went to Roberts for his stand on behalf of traditional journalistic ethics and values and, by extension, journalists who supported him.



PUBLICATIONS


Amber M. VanDerwarker, assistant professor of anthropology, ties political complexity to agricultural practices and ecological factors in two Olmec villages in “Farming, Hunting, and Fishing in the Olmec World” (University of Texas, 2006). She also was selected recently by Smithsonian magazine as one of 37 of “America’s Young Innovators in the Arts and Sciences.”



TRANSITIONS


Kirsi Aulin, a licensed marriage and family therapist and former clinical health educator with the Student Health Service, was recently appointed associate ombuds in the Office of the Ombuds. She has extensive counseling experience.


Sandra Camp, a former financial assistant with the Natural Reserve System, has been promoted to business officer in the Educational Opportunity Program. She has been a UC employee for 28 years.
