From Food to Fun, Wellness Fair Has Wide Appeal
The Wellness Fair 2007 will begin at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, with simultaneous workshops on strength and balance exercises in the UCen’s Harbor Room and a talk on mind-body medicine in the State Street Room, while a safety trainer updates people on CPR in the Corwin Pavilion at 11:30 a.m. Choice is the watchword as more than 30 exhibitors and three hours of special workshops on how to take care of yourself offer something for virtually everyone in this year’s Wellness Fair, which has a theme of “Sustaining Wellness.” Bilingual health educators will be available in Corwin between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to answer questions about diet and diabetes. Prize drawings are scheduled every half-hour, beginning at 11:25 a.m. Meditation, belly dancing, Internet dating, and gardening are among other workshop topics. Comfortable clothing is suggested for those interested in learning techniques in Tai Chi, which instructor Patrick Freudenthal calls “Meditation in Motion.” This is not to be confused with Judith Smith’s “Mindful Meditation” class, which precedes Freudenthal’s workshop. A chiropractor will be present in Corwin throughout the fair to answer questions. The free sessions are “designed to encourage a balance of the mental, physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and environmental dimensions of life,” according to Laura Morgan, health care facilitator for Human Resources. She is a co-organizer of the fair with Virginia Thomas, Housing and Residential Services health advocate. |
