Music and musical events thread through the 2007 Staff Celebration Week as it runs from the May 7 ice cream social to the barbeque on May 11. Guided tours and an opening ceremony are planned for UCSB’s newest green building, the student-funded Student Resource Building, on May 10 and May 11. The Chancellor’s Staff Celebration Barbeque on the Faculty Club Green also will host a DJ from campus radio station KCSB-FM. Two free concerts are scheduled in the Music Bowl on May 8 and May 10 at noon, spotlighting the Middle East Ensemble and the UCSB Gospel Choir, respectively. On May 9 a “staff social,” beginning at 3:30 p.m., will feature the Music Department’s String Trio in the building’s garden area. A co-production of the Chancellor’s Staff Advisory Council and Staff Assembly, the celebration this year begins with a choice between a noon meeting on the campus’s Long Range Staffing Development Plan in ESB 1001 and the usual ice cream tent at noon behind Cheadle Hall. Human Resources Director Cynthia Cronk will lead the noontime staffing discussion. Some activities have advance deadlines, such as the Faculty Club’s breakfast buffet from Monday through Thursday, which asks for reservations (x3096). Popular tours, such as glass blowing, and limited-capacity tours, like the ones on May 11 between 10 a.m. and noon of the new Allosphere in the California NanoSystems Institute Building require registration. Call Dawn Fink (x3029) for the Allosphere visit by today, April 30. Freshening the week’s tours and activities will be a new “stretch yoga class” (May 8); a sculpture tour (May 9 and 10); and ecosystem walks of parts of the campus, particularly the lagoon area (various days). |
