HALLOWEEN PARKING RESTRICTIONS START ON OCT. 27

With Halloween landing on a Tuesday this year, some on-campus parking will be set aside the previous weekend as well as that night for UCSB students living in Isla Vista who have special Halloween permits. “Safety concerns are the primary reason for opening some lots,” said Bob Sundberg, associate director of Transportation and Parking Services (T&PS).
Except for the designated campus lots, all others will close at 5 p.m. Restrictions will run for three nights—Oct. 27, 28, and 31 (skipping Oct. 29 and 30)—and be enforced between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. Some lots may have their entrances chained during this period, said Sundberg.
Holders of valid parking permits A, S, and C, as well as R, G, or B need do nothing extra to access campus parking during the designated times. UCSB students without one of the above permits must apply for a free Halloween permit online <www.tps.ucsb.edu>. Short-term night and weekend permits (lock-in fee permits) will not be honored during these three nights, said T&PS officials.
Automatic ticket dispensers will be temporarily out of service the nights of Oct. 27, 28, and 31, in order to limit outsider parking at UCSB, Donna Carpenter, acting vice chancellor, administrative services, announced in a campuswide memo.
The restrictions are also designed to deny outside visitors easy access to I.V. parties from campus parking spaces, according to parking officials. Two lots—Parking 38 and 30, near Harder Stadium—and Mesa 18 Parking Structure will be the primary areas for Halloween parking, with Parking 16 as backup.
By Friday, Oct. 27, “all cars will be removed from Del Playa,” said Sundberg. “Those displaced students will be eligible for the special permits.”
Pre-ordered Halloween permits can be picked up at the T&PS booth in front of the UCen through Friday.
Those driving to campus on Friday night to hear pianist Hee-Kyung Juhn at the Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall should plan to park in lot 3.
