Campus Labeled ‘Climate Leader’ UC Santa Barbara has had its sources of greenhouse gases independently certified, becoming a “Climate Action Leader” with the California Climate Action Registry, according to Perrin Pellegrin, campus sustainability coordinator. Engineering I Now Frank Hall Philanthropists Diana and Harold Frank were recently hailed by the College of Engineering for their contribution to the renovation of Engineering I. The building has been renamed Harold Frank Hall in his honor.
HONORS & AWARDS
Michael Glassow, professor of anthropology, has received the Society for California Archaeology’s 2006 Lifetime Achievement Award for his “cumulative contributions” to the field and his “important role in the emergence of … cultural resource management” in the state and nation.
Robert Koegel, professor of education and director of UCSB’s Koegel Autism Research and Training Center, and Lynn
Koegel, the center’s clinical services director, have received new recognition in the form of a Hearts ‘N Arts Autism Awareness Award from Autism Perspective magazine.
Sgt. Suzanne Malloy, UCSB Police Department, has received an award for superior performance from the Santa Barbara Citizen’s Council on Crime. The award recognizes the veteran officer’s skills in conflict resolution.
Gregg Wilson, long-time coach of the men and women’s swimming teams, was honored last month by the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table as College Coach of the Year. This was the fifth time he had won this title, a new record. Earlier, he won the Big West Conference Coach of the Year, a title he has won more than 20 times over the years.
TRANSITIONS
Alexandra Halsey, who was formerly with the Bren School as senior writer and communications manager, is now public relations and graphics coordinator for the University Art Museum.
IN MEMORIAM
Lyle G. Reynolds, former dean of students, died on June 1 in Santa Barbara. The native of Campbell, Calif., was 94. He joined the UCSB faculty in 1947 and served nearly 30 years in various positions, including 19 as dean of students. A civic activist, he was on the Santa Barbara City Council from 1977 to 1985. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor, five daughters, three sons, and many grandchildren, as well as a sister.
