June 22, 8 p.m.: “Iran: The Next War?” Hosted by the UCSB Center for Middle East Studies, a panel of experts tries to assess future U.S. actions in the Middle East;
9 p.m.:
“Humanitarian Responses to Conflict and Crisis with Nicolas de Torrenté.” De Torrenté, executive director of Doctors Without Borders, is interviewed on stage about the ongoing challenges of working in conflict zones.

June 23, 8 p.m.: “Taylor Branch—At Canaan’s Edge: America in the King Years, 1965-68.” Presented by the Walter H. Capps Center, Branch, a Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer of Martin Luther King, Jr., explores King’s relevance to America today.

June 27, 8 p.m.: “Emerging Energy Technologies Summit 2006: Energy Efficiency/Conservation.” The Technology Management Program-sponsored summit at UC Santa Barbara discusses key issues, including more efficient and renewable energy sources, production of ethanol, hybrid, electric and hydrogen cars, etc.

June 28, 8 p.m.: “International Strategies for Changing U.S. Nuclear Policy.” The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s symposium hosts a panel of experts suggesting ways to change U.S. nuclear policy.

Opposition to the Vietnam War was not limited to groups outside the military, as documentarian David Zeiger reminds audiences with this re-telling of the underground meetings, publications, boycotts, and peace marches sponsored by the anti-war GI movement. Zeiger won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 2005 Los Angeles Independent Film Festival.


“Sir! No Sir!,” which documents the G.I. anti-war movement (with help from Jane Fonda) during the Vietnam War, will screen on July 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Campbell Hall. Call x3535 for ticket information.
