Nov. 19 has been selected for the annual benefit walk/run, known as the UCSB Turkey Trot, for the student medical emergency relief fund. The 5K/10K walk or run starts with an 8:30 a.m. check-in next to the lagoon, behind the University Center.

Registration online is possible at <www.essr.ucsb.edu/recsports>, but the deadline has passed for the $5 discount per person on entry fees. Now it will cost $20 each on race day. Participants will receive a range of food items, and prizes will be awarded to top finishers in all categories.

The Turkey Trot aids a student medical relief fund officially called the UCSB Jack Canfield Chicken Soup Fund. Last spring, UCSB students “overwhelmingly passed (an) initiative to support an augmentation (89 cents per student) to the Canfield Fund,” said Paul Lee, director of recreational sports.
