Students Boost Support Fees
UCSB undergraduate and graduate students added $60 to their annual fees by supporting various financial initiatives during last month’s campus elections. Students currently pay $22.22 a year in support fees for selected student services. Starting next September, students will be paying $82.18. Of the nine initiatives that were on the spring ballot, five were approved. They included support for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Counseling and Career Services (C&CS), the University Children’s Center, and the Women’s Center. “Students were extremely generous,” said Yolanda Garcia, executive director of the Student Academic Support Services Department. “They supported student services across the board.” She noted that four of the five new or expanded quarterly fees were in support of programs under her department. They included a new $2.75 fee for the EOP to support efforts such as the Freshman Summer Start Program, the Peers Program, and the African American/American Indian Cultural Center. Another new quarterly fee was for $5.85 a student for the C&CS. |
