Tentative agreement on a three-year contract for UC service workers was announced on April 20 by the UC Office of the President.

Wages would increase 3 percent across the board for the first two years, and 4 percent in the third year, subject to final state appropriations for each year.

Additional contract provisions maintain the salary-based approach to health benefits; keep parking rates at the lowest level given other union workers at each campus; and expand employee training and career development.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), which represents 7,300 service workers throughout the University of California, has slightly more than 430 employees at UCSB. Union members still must vote on the agreement to bring it into force.

AFSCME members struck the UC system for one day slightly less than a week before the agreement was announced. At UCSB, officials said 69 union members did not report to work that day.
