Campus
Parking Restricted on Halloween
On-campus
parking will be mostly restricted to current permit holders for
three nights between 5 p.m. and 6 a.m. at the end of this month.
Beginning on Friday evening, Oct. 29, and ending Monday morning,
Nov. 1, the automatic ticket dispensers will be temporarily out
of service in order to limit outsider parking at UCSB, announced
Donna Carpenter, acting vice chancellor, administrative services.
However, graduate and undergraduate students living
in Isla Vista who wish to park on campus may apply on line for special,
free Halloween permits to use campus space (and security) for these
nights. To register for the Halloween parking permits, go to Transportation
and Parking Services (T&PS) Web site < www.tps.ucsb.edu/Halloween.html>.
The Halloween permits will be distributed to registered
applicants at the UCen courtyard between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during
the week of Oct. 25-29.
The restrictions are designed to deny outside visitors
easy access to I.V. parties from campus parking spaces. “Halloween…should
be a local event,” wrote Carpenter in her memo to the campus
community.
As for the people who drive to campus the night
of Oct. 29 to see and hear The Jazz Passengers provide music and
dialog for “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” Arts &
Lectures advises that T&PS will have assistants on hand to sell
parking permits. If a permit has been purchased in advance, date
it and display it on the dashboard. Attendants will also service
day events, such as the Music Department’s University Artists
Series at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Any vehicles found without permits during the above
dates will be ticketed and towed, campus officials warned.
