| Donors, campus
officials, and volunteers on the Campaign for UC Santa Barbara
gathered on campus the evening of Oct. 2 to celebrate the
launch of the public phase of the comprehensive fund-raising
drive. Besides dancing, dining, and a chocolate fountain in
which to dip strawberries (above), participants saw a videotaped
message from actor/producer Michael Douglas, class of ’68,
who spoke to them as honorary chair of the seven-year campaign
that has been in its quiet phase since 2000. “We are
seeking to raise $350 million for UCSB…and we’re
already more than halfway there,” said Douglas.
