Parking Kiosk on CPC Agenda

The Campus Planning Committee, a high-level advisory unit to the chancellor on capital projects and long-range planning, will meet on May 25, to decide about moving the information kiosk at the east entrance to a more centralized location, among other agenda items.
Transportation and Parking Services (T&PS) has recommended that a staffed information (but not permit sales) booth be constructed on the University Plaza's median, at the campus's north entrance near Cheadle and Campbell halls. The west entrance kiosk was eliminated earlier this year.
Marc Fisher, associate vice chancellor for campus design and facilities, said that if CPC approves the plan, construction of the new kiosk would likely begin this fall and coincide with a major redesign of the Highway 217 terminus and east entrance to campus. Under this timeline, it would also coincide with initiation of the Mosher Alumni House's construction.
CPC first considered the kiosk relocation in April and will finalize its thinking at the second session on Tuesday, which will be held at 2 p.m. in the UCen State Street Room.
In other parking-related items, Tom Roberts, T&PS director, announced that the self-pay parking permit dispensers on campus lots are proving their worth. They have allowed dismantling of the kiosk-based permit sales system sooner than expected, he said, and the greater time options and range of rates has resulted in "an actual increase in parking revenue as individuals tailor their parking spending to (better) match their...needs."
Roberts also reported that night and weekend parking revenues "are running ahead of projections and we have received no reports of reduced attendance at campus events and functions since the fees went into effect." Permit enforcement is all day Saturdays and Sundays and ends at 10 p.m. on weekdays.
