CAMPUS NOTES

Academic Senate Lauds Lomelí
By a unanimous voice vote the UCSB Faculty Legislature last month saluted Francisco Lomelí, professor of Spanish and Portuguese as well as Chicana/o studies, for his selection as the 2004 Scholar of the Year. The honor was bestowed by the National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies, but when he accepted it last month the ceremony in Albuquerque was disrupted by a small group of students. The UCSB resolution described the incident as "unfortunate inasmuch as (Lomelí's) contributions to our campus, and particularly to this department, have been extremely important."
