Discovery Days Deadline Is June 11 Orientation Program's
Discovery Days calendar is accepting fall events for publication until
June 11 through a Web site <www.sa.ucsb.edu/orientation/

Directory's white pages deadline is June 21 for changes.
Since the phone book is based on payroll systems data, if someone was
removed from the payroll he or she was automatically deleted from the
phone listings. You may also edit your own entry at <http://directory.ucsb.edu>.
HONORS & AWARDS
Claudia Chapman, executive director of UCSB's Academic Senate,
is completing a one-year stint as president of the Soroptimist International
of Santa Barbara, but will return to the Camino Real Region's board for
two more years as its parliamentarian.
Reginald Golledge, professor of geography, has been
selected to join the prestigious National Advisory Committee for the multidisciplinary
social science initiative known as the Decade of Behavior. His term runs
three years.
PUBLICATIONS
Daphne Bugental, professor of psychology, uses scientific
and personal perspectives to examine disabled children in "Thriving in
the Face of Childhood Adversity" (Psychology Press, 2003).
Sabine Frühstuck, associate professor of East Asian
studies, has published "Colonizing Sex: Sexology and Social Control in
Modern Japan" (UC Press, 2003).
TRANSITIONS
Brandon Mowery, assistant director for telemarketing
with the Development Office's annual fund for the past two years, has
been promoted to director of the annual fund, telemarketing, and direct
mail.
IN MEMORIAM
Alain Dubie (née Allen G. Wachhold), a library
assistant in acquisitions, died of lung cancer on May 11. The native of
Fresno, Calif., was 56. He had a Ph.D. in history from UCSB, and had worked
on campus since 1981. He is survived by a wife, Nancy, a daughter, a son,
and a brother.
