Here They Come, All 4,700An approximate total of 4,700 students will graduate from UC Santa Barbara in seven official ceremonies that began on June 6 with the College of Creative Studies, continue on June 12, and end with the Graduate Division's June 13 exercise.
As is traditional at UCSB, ceremonies are organized by college, level of degree, and field of study so that each student can be individually recognized. Chancellor Henry T. Yang will shake the hand of each student from the College of Creative Studies, the College of Engineering, the College of Letters and Science, and the Graduate Division.
This Saturday and Sunday, June 12-13, six separate ceremonies will be held on the Faculty Club Green. Guest speakers for each ceremony are as follows:
Saturday, 9 a.m., Science and Mathematics Walter Kohn, UCSB research professor of physics and a Nobel Laureate (1998)
Saturday, 1 p.m., Engineering and Science Bill Nye, author and host of Disney Studio's "The Science Guy"
Saturday, 4 p.m., Social Sciences 1 John Cleese, actor, comedian, and entrepreneur
Sunday, 9 a.m., Social Sciences 11 Gerry Spence, trial lawyer and author
Sunday, 1 p.m., Arts and Humanities Ngugi wa Thiong'o, Kenyan writer, professor of English, and director of the International Center for Writing and Translation at UC Irvine
Sunday, 4 p.m., Graduate Division U.S. Senator Jon S. Corzine, New Jersey
