Coach Tim Vom Steeg’s men’s soccer team made UCSB sports history on Dec. 4 when the Gauchos knocked off Virginia Commonwealth 4-1 at Harder Stadium. This qualified the Gauchos for their first-ever trip to the NCAA College Cup Final Four.

The game against Duke University was last Friday, after 93106 went to press, in Carson’s Home Depot Center Stadium. No matter the outcome of that game, this team has made its mark.

One sign of the team’s impact was the official count of more than 11,200 fans at Harder. Local sports reporters commented that this was the largest sports audience seen at UCSB since the campus sponsored a football team. Another sign was the fact that some of these fans waited more than an hour in line to get in.
