TAs Strike Campus

Academic student employees–TAs, tutors, readers, and graduate associates–struck UCSB and other campuses last Friday in a one-day, systemwide walkout. Negotiations between the University and the United Auto Workers union, which represents all UC academic student employees, had failed to find agreement before the Sept. 30 expiration of the present contract.

"We hope that remaining differences between the union and the university will be settled in a timely manner," said Gene Lucas, acting executive vice chancellor. The UC Office of the President handles all labor contract negotiations.
