Professional Women to Gather On-line registration
is expected to begin this week for the 10th anniversary conference of
the UCSB Professional Women's Association on April 30. Go to <www.pwa.ucsb.edu>
for program details and registration (April 25 is the
deadline) for the gathering, whose theme is "Celebrating a Decade of
Accomplishment by UCSB Women." Sara Miller McCune, chair of Sage Publications
and a UCSB Foundation trustee, will keynote the luncheon at which no
fewer than 23 employees will be christened "Unsung Heroines."
Golf League to Start April 9 Bob Fletcher is looking
for a few more golfers to play in his league. "UCSB employees and their
friends are welcome at a Wednesday evening golf league at Ocean Meadows,"
he said. It will begin on April 9. The shop supervisor for biological
sciences plans to gather enough players to pay Ocean Meadows' green
fees and to start a tournament points fund. If interested, call him

ABOG Conference in Berkeley The Berkeley Marina
Radisson is the location for the April 6-9 Academic Business
Officers Group conference. Many top UC administrators will address the
group, which is expected to number over 200 participants. Registration

Non-teaching Careers to Be Explored "The Changing Face of
Education: A Focus on Opportunities and Challenges" is the title of
an April 12 careers conference at UCSB presented by the Gevirtz
Graduate School of Education Alumni. Sessions at Phelps Hall will run
from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration is at the door, and costs $5

HONORS & AWARDS
George Legrady, professor of Art Studio, received an initial
grant of $8,000 from the Creative Capital Foundation of New York City
to develop his "Speaking/Sensing Space" project, in which viewers' movements
alter visual and audio elements of a digital environment.
John Wiemann, vice chancellor, institutional advancement,
has been elected to the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden Board of Trustees.
He has been a professor of communication at UCSB since 1977.
PUBLICATIONS
John Foran, professor of sociology, has just published his edited volume, "The Future of Revolutions: Rethinking Radical Change in the Age of Globalization" (Zed Press, 2003).
TRANSITIONS
Anil Gnanamuthu, a former employment assistant with Human Resources, is now tour coordinator and admissions counselor for the Visitor Center. He joined the UCSB staff in 2001.
