Chancellor Henry Yang has written to all faculty and staff about how the slowdown in the California economy has affected UC. While the new state budget does increase UC operating funds, he noted, "it does not provide the level of support for improving faculty and staff salaries that we had requested." This, he said, "is disappointing to all of us."
He said that, to help keep up with the growing workload demands on the campus, additional faculty positions have been approved. He also said that new workload funds are being allocated to the vice chancellors.
