  • Summer Courses Discounted for Staff

As part of the shift to year-round enrollment, the number of courses offered this summer at UCSB is up 50 percent over last year, and enrollments are running about 45 percent higher than at the same time a year ago.
In addition, a special staff rate of $25 per unit (a discount of $51) for up to eight units has been announced for career staff members who want to take courses offered as part of this summer's program of expanded instruction. Some restrictions apply. Full details on the discount program are available on the Web.
A new work-incentive program has been put in place that encourages the hiring of students by academic and nonacademic units that need more help because of the expanded summer enrollment.
Continuing UC students also can compete for grants for independent study project expenses of up to $500 each. A fund of some $40,000 has been set aside for research and creative projects. Applications are due June 8 and may be obtained from the Special Programs Office in the College of Letters & Science, or by e-mail from Christine Iriart.
