    (Re)Vision I.V. Picks a Winner
    The Isla Vista design entry from Envision Design of Berkeley, which minimizes the role of private automobiles in the densely populated community, took first place on Feb. 25 in the (Re)vision I.V. master plan juried competition. It and the four other finalists' designs will be displayed in the UCen from Tuesday, March 6, to March 23. Sometime this month or next the sponsors, including UCSB, will announce if they accept the design as their guide to Isla Vista's future development.

    Food Drive Ends March 12
    A six-week drive to collect cereals, grains, and canned goods for local food banks by the Professional Women's Association will end on March 12. Drop-off locations are at Physical Facilities Department's Learning Center; UCen 1180 (Dining Services Office); Davidson Library 1523; Cheadle Hall 1117 (College of Letters & Science); and Engineering I, room 4162.



    HONORS & AWARDS

    Carol Lansing, professor of history, has won the American Society for Church History's Outler Prize and $1,000 for her 1998 book "Power and Purity: Cathar Heresy in Medieval Italy." The award is given to the best book in the past two years on ecumenical church history.
     




    PUBLICATIONS

    Victor Fuentes, professor and chair of Spanish and Portuguese, has published "Los Mundos de Bunuel (The Worlds of Bunuel)" (Ediciones Akal, 2001) in Spain. It looks at the director's claim to fame and includes a filmography.
     

    Chela Sandoval, assistant professor of Chicano studies, has a new book out on activism, "Methodology of the Oppressed" (University of Minnesota Press, 2000). It was reported second on the Top Titles list of an on-line book seller for the month ending Jan. 21.
     




    TRANSITIONS

    Socorro Aguilera, a 20-year UCSB employee, has moved from records coordinator to administrative assistant in the Advancement Services Department of the Institutional Advancement Division.
     

    Marlyn Cordray, formerly with Davidson Library and institutional advancement, has returned to the library where she is now assistant to University Librarian Sarah Pritchard.
     

    Bruce Hanley, a former inspector for Santa Barbara County's Environmental Health Service, is now biosafety officer with the campus Environmental Health & Safety Department.
