Lisa Cerepanya, left, and Laura Morgan are UCSB's Health Care Facilitation Program staff.

Reinforcements are in place to help employees and their families make better use of their health plans, and they will be available on Dec. 1 in Human Resources (HR). Laura Morgan has been appointed UCSB's health care facilitator, a UC systemwide position that so far exists only on this campus, Berkeley, and Irvine.
"We expect Santa Cruz to open one next," said Morgan, who shares the Health Care Facilitation Program office with Administrative Assistant Lisa Cerepanya. Eventually, every general campus will have a facilitator.
As the title suggests, the facilitator's role is to assist UC active and retired faculty and staff, plus family members and survivors, in working out problems with providers or plans, and to educate members on their options. Referring to the insurers as "partners," Morgan explained, "We don't see ourselves as advocates, but as facilitators of the process. We will use every channel we can to get members what they need."
UCOP experts will be available to facilitators "to help us with interpretations of coverage," noted Morgan. A former training and development consultant with HR, Morgan (x4201) plans to reach people through workshops and departmental meetings. Cerepanya (x5163) previously worked in HR's disability and benefits section. Their office is in SAASB 3101J.
